The election itself took place on Thursday 6th May 2010. It resulted in a hung parliament with the Conservative party winning the most number of seats but 20 seats short of a majority. After many days of talks and negotiations with the Liberal Democrats (to whom my first even vote went to!) the two parties announced a coalition government.
And it was on the 11th of May 2010 - on the day I left the teens and entered the age of the tween - that prime minister Gordan Brown drove up to Buckingham Palace and offered his resignation to the queen making way for the new prime minister David Cameron. It was on my birthday - not just any birthday but the announcement of my spending two decades on this Earth - that the first coalition government was formed since 1974 and Labour lost power after 13 years!
I feel privileged! =D
All this detail? Seriously? Is it really necessary? Well yes, I think it is as this was the first general election in which I took a real genuine interest in the proceedings - from staying up on election night to watching BBC news ll day long for the dew days following.... Its something I would always like to remember!
